Bluegrass Equine Surgery Center (BESC) is an equine veterinary practice providing exceptional client service and primary medical care in the central Kentucky region. We are building a new, diverse, supportive, and driven team.
BESC is seeking to immediately fill the position of Equine Anesthesia Tech.
Hours: Full time, Tuesday-Friday, 7a.m. - 5p.m. (with overtime during spring season)
Reports to: Surgeon, Practice Manager
Department: Surgery
Location: Hospital and field
Compensation: Hourly, based on experience, includes benefits
The BESC Equine Anesthesia Tech assists the doctors with surgery by leading all anesthesia services.
DUTIES
General
Model professionalism and ethical practices
Communicate with Practice Manager, doctors, and clients
Medical
Properly begin standard procedures according to doctor’s preference
Take blood for laboratory procedures
Fill out surgery forms and anesthesia forms during surgery
Calculate tranquilization
Tranquilize surgery patients and place IV catheters
Intubate patients, attach to monitor, and control the anesthesia machine
Monitor patient during surgery
Log controlled drugs
Perform maintenance of anesthesia machine, dental machine
Restrain patients as needed
Take vital measurements on patients
Take x-rays
Other
Promote cooperative working environment among staff members; understand the value of teamwork; show enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice function as a unit
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees

- Lameness (10 weeks)
Candidates must be eligible for a US veterinary license.

We are looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian to join our field services team, providing both general and emergency ambulatory care to our current clients with a strong focus on mare and foal medicine, and an interest in equine reproduction and helping to expand our practice within Central Kentucky. Skills and competencies needed for the role include, but are not limited to:

- Radiograph review - no sales experience required
- Management of the prepartum and post-partum mare
- Management of neonates and young stock

Candidate Requirements:
*Our number one requirement is an excellent fit in terms of hospital culture and professional interest
- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent) degree and veterinary license and accreditation to practice in the state of Kentucky are required.
- Shared on-call rotation with a higher percentage of call taken between February through June during the busy season, and a lower percentage July through January
- Both experienced and recent graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply, an intern role would also be considered for an exceptional new graduate!
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as a part of a growing team within a well-established practice.

Radiology and Sales Technician
Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7-4pm, with guaranteed overtime during sales season. May need to cover Saturdays and Sundays during sales.
Reports to: Surgery Operations Manager, Hospital Manager
Department: Surgery
Location: Field, varies
Compensation: Hourly, based on experience
Duties for the Radiology and Sales Technician Include:
- Overseeing maintenance and repairs on radiology and ultrasound equipment
- Confidently schedule/coordinate maintenance with doctors schedules
- Troubleshoot equipment problems in the clinic and in the field
- Assist the sales coordinator in generating and submitting reports to repository
- Track and submit sales radiographs for all doctors, pay attention to details and communicate with Doctors/Technicians when edits need to be made
- Take sales quality radiographs with and without the supervision of Drs.
- Submit videoscopes to repository for all sales
- Maintain x-ray, ultrasound, and videoscope equipment
- Coordinate with the sales coordinator and surgery operations manager
- Record and submit documents to HISA
- Willing to work outdoors in the heat and cold

Surgeon’s Personal Technician
Job Description

BES is seeking to immediately fill the position of Surgeon’s Personal Technician.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7a.m.- 5p.m.
Reports to: Surgeon, Surgery Operation Manager
Department: Surgery

The BES Surgeon’s Personal Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the Surgeon.
DUTIES
General
- Provide sophisticated calendar management for Surgeon.
- Anticipate needs and help make executive decisions with Surgeon and Surgery Operations Manager
- Act as a liaison and provide support to the Surgery Operations Manager and Administrative Department
- Complete a broad variety of organizational tasks that facilitate the Surgeon’s ability to effectively lead the organization
- Work closely with the Surgeon to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately.
- Model professionalism and ethical practices
Surgery
- Organize with surgery team - setups for surgery and positioning of patients for surgery
- Assist during surgery as needed
- Complete sterile prep of surgery sites
- Clean wrap and sterilize packs
- Restrain patients as needed
- Take vital measurements on patients
- Take blood for laboratory procedures
- Scrub, clean, rinse, and bandage wounds
- Take x-rays
- Gather medical history and proper information for Coggins, fill out forms, take pictures, identify markings
Ambulatory
- Maintain Surgeon’s work vehicle
- Drive work vehicle on daily farm call route
- Facilitate efficiency during farm call setup and breakdown.
- Gather proper information for billing
- Take x-rays, assist with exams and lameness injections.
Other
